October Events

There are several things for students to look forward to during the rest of October.

1. This Wednesday we will be taking the Explore Test. This test identifies students’ strengths and weaknesses and allows teachers and counselors to help with your student’s four-year high school plan.

2. The Green and White Basketball game is Thursday, October 23rd. Come support your teams as they prepare for league play next week.

3. Red Ribbon Week is October 27-31. Students will “elect to be drug free”. Events for that week are:

Monday – Wear Red Day. Wear a red shirt.

Tuesday – Sock it to Drugs. Wear silly socks.

Wednesday – Elect to Be Drug Free. Wear red, white, and blue (NO BLUE JEANS!)

Thursday – Tie One On Against Drugs. Wear a tie or scarf with your collared shirt.

Friday – Team Up Against Drugs. Wear blue jeans and your favorite team jersey, sweatshirt, or t-shirt.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ONLY DAY YOU CAN WEAR BLUE JEANS IS FRIDAY!!!. Dress code will be in place for every other day.

Enjoy Fall Break!!!

There will be no school on Monday and Tuesday, October 13th and 14th. Enjoy the holiday!

The second nine weeks begins Wednesday. Report cards will be sent home on Wednesday, October 22nd. Please let us know if you wish to schedule a conference with us after reviewing their grades for this first grading period. We are available before school at 7:20 a.m or during our planning period at 11:30 a.m. Please notify us so we can schedule a time.  If you wish to meet, you can call the school at 854-2345 or email me at lhatcher@scsk12.org.

End of First Nine Weeks is Approaching

As we near the end of the first nine weeks, please make sure your student has submitted any make-up work from absences.  Shelby County policy is for the student to have an extra day to submit work for each day they miss.  (If you are absent 3 days, you have 3 days to complete missing work.)

Please let us know if you would like to request a conference.  We are in the process of scheduling conference night meetings (October 9th) right now.

AR is working!!! Hooray!!!

The computer in my classroom is now working for Accelerated Reader tests (AR).  The students are now able to take tests in my room.  Because of the delay in getting my computer connected to AR, I am extending the deadline for the test to September 30th.  The tests must be taken by that date.

The end of the first nine weeks is approaching.  Students who have been absent need to check and see that their make-up work has been submitted.  THIS IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY!!  Missing work can lead to low grades and even failure.  Make sure you have all work turned in to your teacher.

Open House is Thursday!!

I hope you will be able to attend Open House/Club Fair on Thursday.   You are invited to the PTSA dinner and meeting as well.  This is a great time to meet the teachers and see what extracurricular activities Schilling Farms offers for your student.

Please check out my agenda for upcoming due dates by clicking the link at the top of the page.  In addition, I have posted information about AR tests and the Book Review.

SEE  YOU  THURSDAY!!!

Enjoy Labor Day!

We have reached the end of August, and I am seeing some excellent work from the students.  Interims will be coming home soon (Sept. 8th), but you might check PowerSchool to see how your students is doing.

Some students who have been absent are not getting their make-up work turned in.  It is most important that they complete assignments so they will obtain the knowledge they need.  I observe that missing work contributes to failure more than anything else.  Remind your student about completing missing work.

IMPORTANT DATES IN SEPTEMBER:

PICTURE DAY – 9-5

INTERIMS – 9-8

OPEN HOUSE/CLUB FAIR – 9-18

A Wonderful First Week
